Charles Wesley Holmes Memorial

Charles Wesley Holmes passed away on September 8, 2022 at his home in Indianola. He is survived by a host of close friends

Charles was born August 1, 1949, in Arkansas, to the late Elmer Ernest and Georgia Parish Holmes. He did his undergraduate as well as graduate work at Delta State University majoring in History and was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta Fraternity, a national History Honor Society. He served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant and was stationed in Ft. Polk, LA and in San Antonio, Texas. He was a past president of the Delta State National Alumni Association, President of the Washington County DSU Alumni Association, President of Rotary Club of Hollandale, and an ordained Deacon at Hollandale Baptist Church.

An avid musician, he played the piano and organ for numerous churches and events. He was a blessing to an untold number of people who were recipients of his many kindnesses, always unselfishly given by Charles. He judged and emceed numerous local, county, high school and university beauty pageants. He was able to attend the Miss China Pageant in 2016.

He moved to Rosedale, Mississippi at the age of 12 where his father was engaged in farming and later owner operator of the Ford Automobile dealership. His mother served as Postmaster in Rosedale until her retirement. Charles served as Postmaster in Cleveland, Gunnison, and Hollandale, Mississippi until his retirement. He continued to be active in the National Retired Postal Employees Association until his death. He was a dedicated volunteer with the ALS Society (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Wayne “Bud” Holmes (Vickie) of Warner Robbins, Georgia.
