Alumni Association to Host Summer Happy Hour Series

CLEVELAND, Miss.— The Delta State University Alumni Association announces, “Sippin’ with the Statesmen”, a summer happy hour series throughout the state of Mississippi. Delta State alumni will have an opportunity to network with fellow alumni from each area along with a chance to meet Delta State University President Dr. Daniel J. Ennis and other Delta State administrators. This meet and greet type series will offer hors d’ouerves and a cash bar. There is no cost to attend each event.

The series will make its first stop at the Chimneys in Gulfport Thursday, May 23rd, followed by the Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood on June 6th, and Hotel Tupelo in Tupelo on June 27th.

“The event on the Gulf Coast kicks off our summer series. We haven’t had an alumni event on the Coast in quite a while, so I’m excited to connect with alumni there and help get their chapter reestablished.” said Corley Mullins, director of Alumni Affairs. “Although our “tour” is small this year, I’d love to see it grow and include more areas. We have an amazing group of alumni, and I want to bring Delta State to as many of them as possible.”

If you would like to see Delta State University come to your city, please reach out to the Alumni Association at alumni@deltastate.edu or 662-846-4660.

Bolivar County Alumni Chapter to Host Annual Event on April 25

Cleveland, Miss — The Delta State University Bolivar County Alumni Chapter will host a Cajun Seafood Boil on April 25 starting at 5:30 p.m. behind the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni-Foundation Building. Alumni, friends, faculty and staff are invited to attend an evening filled with delicious Cajun-style seafood, crowning of our 2024 Crawfish King and Queen, presentation of our 2024 Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship recipients, and entertainment for all ages to enjoy.

“This night is always a great way to connect with fellow alumni and give to a special cause. This event is our primary fundraiser for our Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship and our Bolivar County Alumni Scholarship. These scholarships allow more young people to choose DSU, and we are excited about that. We look forward to seeing you on April 25,” said Zach Pinkerton ’16, president of the Bolivar County Chapter.

All proceeds benefit the Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to incoming Delta State students from Bolivar County. This scholarship was established in 2011 and was named for past assistant director of Alumni Affairs, Liza Vaughn, who lost her battle with cancer in April of 2012.

“We’re all looking forward to the Bolivar County Chapter’s event. Our Bolivar County alumni are so supportive of both Delta State and the Alumni Association, and we always love hosting this event for them, said Corley Mullins, director of Alumni Affairs.

Tickets are $35.00 and can be purchased at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni-Foundation House, online at deltastategiving.org/campaign/2024-bolivar-county-alumni-cajun-seafood-boil/, or at the door the night of the event. Participants can also purchase raffle tickets for a custom-made DSU cornhole set donated by Pinkerton WoodWorks for $10 each.

The event would not be possible without the generosity of sponsors. This year’s event sponsors include: Exceed Physical Therapy of Cleveland, LLC; Flatlanders Printing Company; Heidi’s; Joe Reed & Company, Inc.; McClellan’s Security Services; Mississippi Delta American Legion Post 1776; Mississippi Grounds, LLC; Partnership Properties; Planters Bank & Trust Company of Cleveland; Robinson Electric Company; Sonic Drive-In of Cleveland; The Image Specialist; and Woods Brothers, Inc.
