Alumni Association to Host Summer Happy Hour Series

CLEVELAND, Miss.— The Delta State University Alumni Association announces, “Sippin’ with the Statesmen”, a summer happy hour series throughout the state of Mississippi. Delta State alumni will have an opportunity to network with fellow alumni from each area along with a chance to meet Delta State University President Dr. Daniel J. Ennis and other Delta State administrators. This meet and greet type series will offer hors d’ouerves and a cash bar. There is no cost to attend each event.

The series will make its first stop at the Chimneys in Gulfport Thursday, May 23rd, followed by the Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood on June 6th, and Hotel Tupelo in Tupelo on June 27th.

“The event on the Gulf Coast kicks off our summer series. We haven’t had an alumni event on the Coast in quite a while, so I’m excited to connect with alumni there and help get their chapter reestablished.” said Corley Mullins, director of Alumni Affairs. “Although our “tour” is small this year, I’d love to see it grow and include more areas. We have an amazing group of alumni, and I want to bring Delta State to as many of them as possible.”

Delta State Foundation Launches New Planned Giving Website

written by: Amber Kincaid

Delta State Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Planned Giving website https://deltastateplannedgiving.org/ .  We have been working toward establishing a more formal Planned Giving Program, which includes a dedicated website as part of our integrated marketing plan.

The new website focuses on easy-to-follow donor illustrations for deferred gifts. Also, it includes the latest tax rates, updated documents and state regulations, and current gift annuity rates.

Delta State President Emeritus, Dr. Kent Wyatt was asked to review the site. He stated, “This is an outstanding website not only is it very informational but it is attractive as well. It answers most questions a person would have about giving to Delta State. I like it a lot.” There are many ways to support Delta State University (DSU), but when you plan a gift to the Delta State University Foundation as part of your long-term estate and financial plans, you will support DSU students and programs far into the future. Learn how you can support our cause, benefit yourself and your loved ones with a planned or major gift.

Discover how you can take advantage of tax and financial benefits while creating your personal legacy. Delta State Foundation invites you to explore the new website. The new website allows us to produce easy to understand illustrations that communicate gift concepts to donors. Also, we will be able to offer e-newsletters, donor proposals, social media posts, e-brochures, presentations, educational webinars, desktop printing, Provide & Protect book, a Wills Guide and more!

We look forward to working with alumni and friends who wish to ensure the future strength of Delta State University by including the University as a direct beneficiary in a planned gift. For additional information about planned giving, please contact Amber Kincaid, Development Officer | Planned Giving Officer, University Advancement by emailing her at akincaid@deltastate.edu or calling her at 662-846-4132.

Bolivar County Alumni Chapter to Host Annual Event on April 25

Cleveland, Miss — The Delta State University Bolivar County Alumni Chapter will host a Cajun Seafood Boil on April 25 starting at 5:30 p.m. behind the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni-Foundation Building. Alumni, friends, faculty and staff are invited to attend an evening filled with delicious Cajun-style seafood, crowning of our 2024 Crawfish King and Queen, presentation of our 2024 Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship recipients, and entertainment for all ages to enjoy.

“This night is always a great way to connect with fellow alumni and give to a special cause. These scholarships allow more young people to choose DSU, and we are excited about that. We look forward to seeing you on April 25,” said Zach Pinkerton ’16, president of the Bolivar County Chapter.

All proceeds benefit the Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to incoming Delta State students from Bolivar County. This scholarship was established in 2011 and was named for past assistant director of Alumni Affairs, Liza Vaughn, who lost her battle with cancer in April of 2012.

“We’re all looking forward to the Bolivar County Chapter’s event. Our Bolivar County alumni are so supportive of both Delta State and the Alumni Association, and we always love hosting this event for them, said Corley Mullins, director of Alumni Affairs.

Tickets are $35.00 and can be purchased at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni-Foundation House, online at deltastategiving.org/campaign/2024-bolivar-county-alumni-cajun-seafood-boil/, or at the door the night of the event. Participants can also purchase raffle tickets for a custom-made DSU cornhole set donated by Pinkerton WoodWorks for $10 each.

The event would not be possible without the generosity of sponsors.
