John R. Patterson Scholarship
The John R. Patterson Scholarship Fund has been set up in loving memory of John “JP” Patterson. John loved immersing himself in nature, surrounding himself with music, and helping others. He started out as a music major (trumpet) at Delta State University. While attending Delta State University, John was a member of the Theta Upsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. John later changed his major to Spanish, but remained active in the music department as a member of various vocal ensembles. John graduated with a degree in Spanish from Delta State University. Many years later he went back to school to become a nurse, but his passion for music continued. John was gifted vocally, as well as instrumentally. He sang, and played both the guitar and bass.
The John R. Patterson Scholarship fund is a scholarship that will assist Delta State University students who are affiliated with the music department. It is available to assist both music majors and non-music majors. To qualify for the scholarship, students MUST be a member of a music or vocal ensemble in the Delta State University Music Department (i.e. DSU Marching Band, DSU Jazz Band, Delta Singers, or Chorale). To become a recurring scholarship, The John R. Patterson Scholarship Fund has one year to reach $10,000 so that it can become an endowment. Please consider making a donation to the John R. Patterson Scholarship Fund so that John can continue to impact others lives through music.
